Product description
Manufacturer's Description
Alice: Madness Returns delves deep into the dark and violent side of the imagination, creating a nightmarish Wonderland where Alice must face the demons that haunt her visions. Visit the grim reality of Victorian London and then travel to the beautiful yet ghastly Wonderland to uncover the root of Alice’s madness and discover the truth behind a deadly secret, kept hidden for years.
Eleven years ago a horrific fire took Alice’s family from her and left her mind horrifically scarred. Afterwards she was confined to Rutledge Asylum, where she struggled to confront her demons by slipping further into her fantasy world of Wonderland. Now, after ten years, she has finally secured her release—yet she still bears the heavy psychological burden of that tragic event.
With her mind in tatters, she is unable to resolve the fear prompted by her strange memories, dreams, and visions. Perhaps she’ll do better in Wonderland. She always has. She travels there, seeking what the “real” world can’t provide: security, knowledge, and the truth about the past. But in her absence, Wonderland too has suffered. Something has gone horribly wrong, and now a great evil is descending upon what once was her beautiful refuge. Can Alice save Wonderland—and herself—from the madness that consumes them both?

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 April 2012I came back to gaming after a 5 year break.I started in the 80s with the classic spectrum games from Ultimate, onto the C64 and onwards.Games wise im hard to please. My all time favourites (for the time) were Tomb Raider,Zelda Ocarina of Time and Ico.
I left gaming because it became endless shooters etc.So to Alice.
This is one of the best games iv ever played. The story is amazing.Dark, dragging you in.The visuals are stunning.Music incredible. Its big.Its wonderfull.
It does have a couple of nagging points, mainly around the sometimes tough battles when you kill 15 enemies, have the last one about dead, then you die and they all re-spawn.BUT it really pushed me to learn the weapons better, and consider how to approach these situations.
All id say is stick with the game.Once you master the battles, and the "feel" youl get so much more from it.
A wonderfull game, where your on your own,not online blasting around. It kind of feels lonely, and in a great way.
Gaming needs games like these, different, clever and envolving.
At the price now its fantastic value.A superb game.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 September 2021OK so the game itself is brilliant loved playing it, unfortunately you can't play the original game through it as it is not the UK Europe version but the Canadian version so I don't recommend buying the add ons on psn it'll just be a waste of money unless you buy the digital version of the game through psn at that point you will have just wasted buying this version lucky you should still be able to buy the American Mcgee's Alice for your PC if you really want to play it so I sadly give 3 stars.. but like I said still a great game don't regret buying it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 October 2016Some spoilers in this review.
I do really like this game. The visuals are excellent as is the soundtrack. Elements of game play are very charming. Alice has a 'shrinking' ability that allows you to search out hidden items and you collect snorting pig snouts to open up new path ways. Their rendition of the Cheshire Cat - who pops up every now and again to offer anecdotes and veiled advice - is almost as compelling as their rendition of Alice. She 'dodges' in a flurry of butterflies, which I haven't stopped finding beautiful even though I use the dodge function liberally.
However it can be frustrating. The camera for one is quite unfortunate. It's directly behind Alice which means we only see what she's facing but even then, sometimes it gets stuck. As you advance through the game the more enemies are thrown at you one in one sitting. When the camera doesn't cooperate to let you know where Alice is running or where the enemies are, this means game over very quickly as its easy to get 'stuck' in groups of enemies. Another issue is the actual story. After completing one very difficult and lengthy level helping the Carpenter get his show together in order for some information about the train destroying Wonderland, he just fecks off and tells her nothing! I'm pretty sure something similar happened in the level before! If there's no proper progression after completing a level, it's just annoying. Also the voices during the cinematic sequences are often too low for the audio in the background. If there wasn't subtitles, you wouldn't know what they were saying.
There are some questions too that I found were unresolved. In one level that takes place under the sea, Alice comes across a massacre of fish people. It's a bloody, obviously meant to be disturbing scene but she just moves on and nothing is mentioned about it? What was the point? Just to drill home that its a horror game? I thought something substantial was about to take place and that the tone of the level had changed drastically. But it didn't. I completed the level and moved on to the next.
Despite of these flaws, I still enjoy the game and have poured hours into it. I would recommend it, but don't expect it to be a smooth experience.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 December 2019The code to download the first game was missing from the box, Amazon refunded my money and I got the game directly from PlayStation store and it works great
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 June 2012Alice: Madness Returns seems to be lacking something. It had great graphics and from looking @ the cover & reading the review I could hardly contain myself with the excitement. I have never been so dissapointed in a game in all my years of game playing. It lacks depth it. by looking at the cover u may expect something in the line of Bioshock or a a game similar but this is nowhere near all u do is run around with a pepper grinder shooting pig snouts. I haven't bothered to play any further. If a bit more time and thought had gone into the actual game play instead of the designing of the cover you could have had such a brilliant fun filled action packed game. The idea behind this game was good it just needed developed more for the age group they targeted.
Item was sent quickly and in great condition too. Seller is great its the product that is poor.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 November 2013The graphics in this game are amazingly well crafted and anyone who says otherwise clearly has a poor television set.
The gameplay itself is slightly repetitive but the graphics and the story line make up for that entirely. I find myself fascinated by the beautifully designed backgrounds and buildings that are ever present in the game alongside the variation of voice actors (A Brummy Whale being one of them!) making the game incredibly enjoyable to play on the PS3.
The game follows closely to the Alice in Wonderland from our childhood, with the weapons of the hobby horse and the vorpal blade (mentioned in the Jabberwocky poem by LC himself) giving us enough similarities to conclude that clearly the developers wanted it to be similar enough to give you the impression that Alice is all grown up and, quite frankly, insane and badass.
I would recommend this game to someone who doesn't mind slightly repetitive actions and not so linear gameplay. I purchased this game on a whim and I am most certainly glad I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a UK copy.
This is a UK copy of the game. I don't know if my experience goes for all US consoles, but the content on the disc played right out of the box. Getting the DLC required some doing, but I WAS able to get it. You need to create a UK psn account (you can google/youtube how to do this easily) and then you can sign in and access the DLC. I will note that EA said you can't access the DLC on a US console and that the disc shouldn't even work in one, but as far as I can tell their tech support is just pretending to listen to your problem and then telling you that it's normal and there's no way around it. So in the end everything worked on my USA console - a little bit of extra work required but worth it for about half the price of the US copies (when I made my purchase at least...).

5.0 out of 5 stars Alice: Madness Returns (PS3) [Importación inglesa]

5.0 out of 5 stars Geil geil geil!!!
Absolut empfehlenswert!

5.0 out of 5 stars Très bon

5.0 out of 5 stars Gioco molto originale
